I do a lot of fake tanning, on myself and on others, and believe me in my early days I saw (and was responsible for) many bleak disasters.  I’m now considered a ‘Fake Tan Guru’ because of the technique I’ve acquired through years of practice and experience.  Here I’ll share with you my top ten tips for achieving a flawless, all over tan in less than 10 minutes.
I’ve split the tips up into three sections: section 1 covers the tips on Prep (preparing your body for the tan), section 2 : Prevention (ie. making sure things don’t go wrong) and section 3 covers my tips on Perfection (achieving that gorgeous, natural looking tan that no-one will believe came from a bottle).

A few things you’ll need before you get started:
1.First and foremost, I recommend you use a quality fake tan, preferably instant
2.I’d recommend you use an old towel to cover the ground; this prevents spillage as well as ensures the souls of your feet won’t pick up the colour off the floor
3.You’ll need some petroleum jelly (Vaseline) – you’ll see why soon
4.As well as some aqueous cream or Nivea
5.Using a mitt will really help in achieving a streak-free, even tan but isn’t completely necessary
6.You’ll need to pin your hair off your face

After setting-up and readying yourself start with the prep.

Prepping for your fake tan

1.The first and most important thing to do before even thinking of putting self tan on your body is to prepare your body for the fake tan.  Remove hair from as much of your body as possible (legs, arms, under arms, bikini).  Exfoliate well.
Prevention
1.Using small amounts of aqueous cream or Nivea, moisturise your knees, elbows, ankles, wrists, tops of hands and feet.  This will allow you to cover these areas with the fake tan without them developing into darker areas than they would naturally tan when sun bathing.
2.Prevent your eyebrows from giving your fake tan away by brushing them with a teeny weeny little bit of moisturiser.
3.Rub a fair amount of Vaseline into the palms of your hands, your fingernails and toe nails.  This will prevent any fake tan sinking into these areas and causing any colouring.  If need be also apply vaseline to the souls of your feet.

Perfecting your fake tan

1.Thoughroughly spray the entire area before rubbing the spray tan in.  For example when doing the calves, cover the entire calf in self tan, same goes for the thigh, lower back, upper back, chest, tummy, upper arm and lower arm.  Make sure to do each of these stipulated areas separately.
2.Never spray directly onto your wrists, ankles, knees, face or elbows or into your navel.
3.After spraying the entire area (top arm, lower arm, calf or thigh, buttocks, tummy, upper back or lower back), rub the spray tan in evenly making sure not to leave any areas patchy or streaky.  Then, continue to move the spray tan over your knees/ankles and feet (when doing calf and thigh), elbows/wrists and hands (when doing upper and lower arms) with either your hands or a mitt.
4.Use any left over residue on the mitt to gently cover the face and neck, blending into the chest.Or, if not using a mitt use a small amount and with gloved hands carefully mix with moisturiser and apply to the face.
5.Use any left over residue on the mitt to gently lather into the arm pit.  Or, if not using a mitt use a small amount and with gloved hands carefully mix with moisturiser and apply to the arm pit.
6.Make sure to tan where any seams may appear like the sides of the torso, blending well into the tanned areas.

Exfoliate your skin using Caribbean Tan Professional Body Exfolia (Coconut and Cinnamon scented) to ensure an even, long-lasting fake tan.
Ensure that your skin is dry and free of deodorant, moisturiser and make-up.
Shake the can for at least 1 minute before use.
Hold can upright, approximately 25cm away from the body.
Spray evenly all over the body.
Spray the tops of your hands, your ankles, knees and elbows LIGHTLY.
DO NOT spray your feet directly.
Your fake tan will develop in 1 -2 hours and then continue to darken over the next 24 hours or until you shower.
Wait AT LEAST 8 hours before showering.
Wear loose fitting, dark clothing during this time.  Although any marking on light clothing will come off with washing.
The excess bronzer will wash off during the first shower, leaving you with the healthiest, most natural tan around!
